About My Practice

Hello!

If you are here, then you or your child is probably struggling with a problem for which traditional medicine either doesn't work or has side effects.  And I imagine you might be feeling frustrated, worried, and maybe even a bit discouraged.  And I feel sad about this.  On the other hand, I feel hopeful as I have had an enormous amount of experience helping patients with these problems.

I am a board-certified pediatrician who trained at Stanford University Medical Center. I practiced general pediatrics for 27 years and have sub-specialized for the past 22 years in the use of medical hypnosis for children, adolescents, and adults.

The most common patient problems I treat include:

Performance anxiety (test anxiety, sports performance, stage fright, public speaking

Headaches

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Abdominal Pain, and other gastrointestinal issues

Bedwetting

Tics and Tourette syndrome

Chronic pain

I am an Approved Consultant with the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis and have  been a faculty member of the U.S. National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute since 2014.

I am currently involved in pediatric hypnosis research projects at 2 different major children’s hospitals: one using my program, “Keeping The Bed Dry©” (2013), for patients with bedwetting, and the other using my program, “Controlling Your Gut Feelings©”(2017), for patients with irritable bowel syndrome and functional abdominal pain.

For the past 12 years, I have trained with David Burns, MD, a Stanford Adjunct Clinical Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, School of Medicine, and an internationally recognized pioneer of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) who has developed the 4th iteration of CBT, called TEAM.  As a teaching assistant and a Level 3 TEAM-CBT Trainer with Dr. Burns, I have had the privilege of presenting at Dr. Burns' annual conferences about the use of hypnosis and TEAM-CBT with pediatric patients.

I look forward to speaking with you soon and to helping you help yourself, or helping your child help him/herself.
