About My Practice

Living with overwhelming thoughts and feelings can be… well, overwhelming. It can also feel very lonely, because often others don’t seem to really get what you are going through. It can be very hard for us to really grasp our own thoughts and feelings. It’s not like a physical symptom where the body tells its own story, it is a mix of emotions and sensations and shifting thoughts here one moment and gone the next. It can be a lonely and painful place to live. Sometimes it can feel like nobody is even interested in what you are experiencing, only in getting past it.

If this has been your experience or the experience of someone you care about, my heart goes out to you. To address these challenges, I use a unique method, not unique to me but for everyone trained in TEAM-CBT, that helps identify the painful feelings we experience regularly, and the thoughts associated with them. This tool is very special because it helps clarify with a fair amount of precision what it is you are experiencing. It can be quite helpful and even somewhat liberating to be able to look down at a paper and say, “That’s pretty much how I’ve felt!”

We then use a very interesting method to explain how to get past whatever it was that prevented recovery previously. After this, we have many techniques, many of which are not unique to FGI, that are highly effective at helping you develop emotional habits and cognitive skills that have helped many to experience a lot of healing and recovery. These can be particularly effective when performed in the context of having clarified your experience and addressed the obstacles that have tripped you up in the past.

And if the expense of treatment is a concern for you (like it is for most of us), there are things you can do to put TEAM-CBT to work for you that are cheap or even free, and I would be happy to share them with you.
