About My Practice

At Thrive with CBT – A Therapy Place, we believe therapy should be more than a place to talk—it should help you create meaningful, measurable change in your life. Our practice is grounded in TEAM-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based approach that combines the warmth and understanding of a strong therapeutic relationship with practical tools designed to address the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that keep people feeling stuck.

TEAM-CBT stands for Testing, Empathy, Agenda-Setting, and Methods. We use regular assessments to better understand how you are feeling and whether therapy is helping. We place a strong emphasis on empathy so that you feel understood and supported. Together, we clarify the changes that matter most to you and explore any understandable reasons you may feel conflicted about making those changes. We then draw from a wide range of therapeutic methods to create an individualized plan that fits your needs, personality, and goals.

Our approach is active, collaborative, and goal-oriented. Rather than relying solely on open-ended conversation, sessions may include structured exercises, skills practice, behavioral experiments, exposure work, and between-session assignments. For clients experiencing anxiety or obsessive-compulsive disorder, we may incorporate Exposure and Response Prevention within the broader TEAM-CBT framework. For individuals and couples, we focus on identifying unhelpful patterns, improving communication, strengthening relationships, and developing practical skills that can be used outside the therapy room.

Thrive with CBT was founded by Shayla DeVisser, LCSW, an experienced therapist with more than 15 years of work in advocacy, hospital social work, outpatient therapy, and clinical practice. Shayla has pursued advanced training and certification in TEAM-CBT and remains committed to ongoing education, supervision, and high clinical standards. Our clinicians provide compassionate, trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy by guiding clients to practice new ways of thinking and responding.

We work with adults and couples experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship difficulties, life transitions, low self-esteem, and challenges related to neurodivergence. Services are available in person at our Boise office and through telehealth throughout Idaho. Our goal is to provide therapy that feels deeply human while remaining practical and effective.
