Keys For Effective Treatment of Anxiety: Interoceptive Exposure and Safety Behaviors

Interoceptive exposure is an evidence-based technique that quickly and effectively helps patients with a range of anxiety conditions including panic attacks and panic disorder, health anxiety, chronic pain, and chronic dizziness. Since patients who struggle with anxiety often catastrophize and worry about their physical sensations, interoceptive exposure helps patients learn that the sensations associated with anxiety (e.g., racing heart, breathlessness, lightheadedness) are harmless, tolerable, and safe.
