About My Practice

About My Practice

Denise Mosawi Therapy is based in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, I work with neurodivergent children, youth, and their caregivers in a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based space that never treats neurodivergence as something to be fixed. I see clients in person in West Vancouver and offer online appointments to families anywhere in BC. Contact me via my website: www.denisemosawi.com or directly at denise@denisemosawi.com

About Me

I'm Denise Mosawi, RCC, MC, MBA. I hold a Master of Counselling and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), which means my fees may be reimbursed under many extended health insurance plans. Before training as a counsellor, I spent 20 years coaching, and that background still shapes how I show up with clients — practical, collaborative, and genuinely curious about what each person needs to thrive. My clinical training continues to evolve and currently includes TEAM-CBT Level 2 certification through the Feeling Good Institute, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Collaborative Problem Solving, and Coping Cat.

About My Services

When I work with a child or youth, I start by understanding their neurobiology — how their nervous system is wired and how that shows up for them in big moments. From there, we externalise their emotions, thoughts, and responses together, getting curious about why they show up when they do, learning to talk back to those emotions, and noticing any thought distortions underneath them. Throughout, we build the skills of self-regulation and healthy coping. Exactly how this looks depends on the client in front of me: I draw on adapted CBT and Narrative Therapy in individual work, and on IFS and Collaborative Problem Solving when working with families, choosing techniques — perhaps sandplay with a younger children, or maybe role play with an older youth — based on their developmental stage and how they prefer to engage. Above all, the work is shaped around the individuality of the person in front of me.

Caregivers are a core part of this work. Parenting a neurodivergent child often means living with behaviours that can feel like they come out of nowhere — a meltdown, a shutdown, a shift in mood with no obvious trigger — and I know how exhausting and isolating that can be. I sit with caregivers in that difficulty and help them build a deeper understanding of what's happening beneath the behaviour: the neurobiology, the sensory or emotional triggers, the unmet needs. From there, we work on the specific, practical skills that support their child at home — how to respond in the moment, how to prevent escalation before it starts, and how to hold space for their child's experience while also caring for their own.

I also run a customised 10-week online life skills program for neurodivergent youth. During collaborative problem solving we sometimes identify lagging skills and this program is designed to address those.

My practice accepts Autism Funding and offers sliding-scale pricing in certain circumstances, so cost is less of a barrier to getting support.
