About My Practice

Dr. Prouty (PSY25979) specializes in working with children, adolescents, and parents, utilizing evidence-based treatments for a variety of developmental and behavioral problems.  His approach is to understand problems as a confluence of factors, biological, psychological, and social, and to apply the most appropriate treatment.  He has expertise in the treatment of Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Learning Disabilities, childhood behavioral disorders, as well as childhood anxiety and depression.  Dr. Prouty frequently uses cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based approaches adapted to the developmental level of the children he works with.  In addition Dr. Prouty emphasizes working with parents, empowering them to provide support and help to their child; and teachers, pediatricians, and other providers, who work as a team to support children in treatment.

Dr. Prouty also conducts research on adolescent brain development, alcohol use, and sleep at SRI International’s Center for Health Sciences where he is a research psychologist.  Prior to this work Dr. Prouty completed post-doctoral training in neuropsychological assessment at the Hume Center in Fremont CA, and completed training at Kaiser Permanente in Child and Family Psychiatry departments. He earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Palo Alto University.

Dr. Prouty’s work draws upon his extensive experience working with children and families in a variety of settings for the past 25 years.  He has been a classroom teacher for students with Learning Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders, an experiential program coordinator for a school district, and a wilderness trip leader.
